About the Authors
Brian Ballantine lives outside of Denver, in Littleton, CO, with Esme, a precocious bob-tailed cat, her brother Watson, and lots of houseplants. His background is in theater (acting, directing, and writing). His works have been performed in schools and theaters across the country. Brian continues to try and spend more time writing and less time thinking about writing. Bob Di Giovanni has a wonderful wife and three wonderful children and spent 50 years on both coasts before settling in Colorado. His previous creative endeavors include playwriting and writing and performing in multiple musical parodies. He is also a lawyer, business executive, crossword puzzle enthusiast, and near-scratch miniature golfer. |
We’re frequently asked, “Two people writing the same book? Isn’t that hard?” It certainly could be, but it helps that we recognize our complementary strengths and are very open to the other’s suggestions. We talk about and agree on the big stuff, Bob tends to do more of the macro-plotting, and Brian tends to focus on the more overtly “creative” elements and quirky characters and relationships.
But those are pretty gross generalizations. We also tend to do quite a bit of “pantsing-not-plotting,” at least until we’re at least halfway through the books, and we routinely mix-and-match by trading off characters and plot threads and regularly edit each other’s work as we go, so the final result, even at the scene level, is very much a joint product with a single voice. |
